So it's official, my external hard drive is officially fried, and the contents have been completely corrupted according to the folks at Waterloo Networks.
I bought an external hard drive in January, and while I was attempting to backup my files this week, I accidentially tripped the A/C power cable, which caused the enclosure to fall to the ground. To make matters worse, the hard drive fell as it was spinning away.
Anyway, I was pretty positive that the hard drive was a goner, but I still had hope that at least some of the data could be recovered, especially as there was no horrible screeching sound when I re-ran the drive. While most of the work had been backed up, I did lose the work I did last term, and a couple dozen gigs of multimedia files. The bright side of it is that I still have hard copies of last term's files, so I'll take a day to just run it though a document scanner.
Of course, my multimedia files are gone for good. Luckily, no precious pictures were on there.
So a few words of advice:
- Do not drop hard drives
- Do not drop hard drives when it's still running
- Establish a routine to backup your files
By the way, I like the Waterloo Networks' philosophy, and I recommend giving them a shot if you have any computer technical issues. They charge a flat fee of $55, so the price is small and predictible. Plus, there is no bitchy impatient tech people, only the best and positive people who are really willing to help. They said that if they aren't able to recover any data, I won't be charged. So what do I have to lose? Awesome.
Now that my hard drive is deemed useless, I think I might put it in the freezer.
My Paypal account was hacked a few weeks ago. I didn't want to actually talk about it until the issues have been resolved.
A few weeks ago, I was doing my work, my Outlook notified me that Paypal received payment from me to a Germany-based VOIP Company.
Of course, I freaked out and checked my Paypal to see if anything was tampered with. And of course, it was not just some phishing thing-- someone actually withdrew money from my bank account and used the money to pay for their VOIP service.
Anyways, I called my bank to see if I can block the transaction, and they said that they could, as long as the transcation hasn't already gone through. Since my Online Banking numbers are not updated in real time, it's hard to say it actually went through.
Then I frankically changed my passwords. This process was so damn annoying because even when you have a password in mind, different sites have different pasword rules, which means you end up having so many different variations of the password.
An hour after, Paypal's bots recognized some suspicious activity with my account and froze it. While I guess this is impressive, they did not make retroactive my account to what it was before the unauthorized transactation. I was still required that I go through the 'Resolution Centre' process.
It turns out that my bank was able to block the transaction, so actually I don't really give Paypal any credit. I know this because Paypal notified me that my bank declined the fund transfer, and that my Paypal account will be charged as a result.
Luckily, a few days later, the whole dispute was resolved, and by account was back to the expected amount.
Wow. Online security concerns are quite serious. Maybe I'll return to making transactions the old-fashioned way. Geez.
Canada Computers is like Wal-Mart.
I hate the place, but I find myself continuing to go there just because their stuff is so darn cheap. Being the poor student that I am, I just cannot afford to support other stores 'for the greater good' or 'for the customer experience value'. I've essentially been priced out of other places.
Yep. Canada Computers and I have had a struggling relationship as long as I can remember, back when they only had one location at Pacific Mall. Pacific Mall's location is notorious for having bitchy sales reps. I have been to the others in Scarborough, North York, and Waterloo since their massive expansion within and outside the GTA in the recent years, and I will admit that these locations have much better customer service than at Pacific Mall. The dudes at the Pacific Mall location operate as if they they ruled the world of cheap computer goods, and that PC's everyhere would suffer had they not existed.
For sure, they do sell very cheap computer goods, but it's just good business sense not to be so 'inch'. Canada Computers could definitely be even much more successful if they just paid better attention to customer service. I am not a picky shopper. I don't care if you don't greet me and all that crap. Just give me the products that I want to buy without making me angry.
So yes. Canada Computers' pompous attitude has given me great passion to find other stores to support. I will desperate hunt to see if other stores are at least selling at about the same price as Canada Computers. I will only give in when the price isn't right.
Here's my list of alternatives.
PC Village, First Markham Place
This store rocks. Their prices are competitive as Canada Computers, and they actually provide awesome customer service. I always leave the store happy, confident, and satisified about my purchased. Highly recommended!
PC Gate Computers, Pacific Mall
They have awesome service, the dudes there are always helpful. Prices are usually more expensive however.
Premier Computer Canada, 3311 Lake Shore Blvd. West, Toronto
Never visited their Etobicoke location, but have purcahsed a few things over the web. Prices are a hit and miss. Selection is excellent.
Infonec, 351 Ferrier St, Markham
Prices are fairly competitive, but selection not as comprehensive as Canada Computers'.
ICCT, Splendid China Tower
Service is pretty good. Prices are a hit and miss, selection is limited.
Do you have any suggestions for cheap computer goods?
My web page skills are getting really crappy.
The holiday break is always the best time to do some website maintenance, but my progress this year has continued to be not-so-good.
I thought that I would be ambitious and try to set up Textpattern after recommendations from Ram. While I found the initial setup and importing to be a piece of cake, I was unable to integrate my blog and linklog into one page. While I tried to follow Ram's comprehensive post about doing so, I gave up after a while, as I was overwhelmed with the things that I don't know how to do.
Then I tried upgrading to Movable Type 4. Wow. The frilly Movable Type presents users with a gorgeous backend interface, but again, the setup to integrate of blog and linklog entries are almost impossible, since some of the variables used in MT4 have since been changed or discontinued, causing the rebuilding process to be full of errors, may of which I do not know how to resolve.
I knew this was going to happen, as I recall going through the same procedures some time ago, so I backed up my Movable Type 3 platform.
Then, I thought that I would finally enable dynamic publishing from my current MT3 platform. While I was successful in getting it to work, I realized that my plugins then didn't work. According to this article on learningmovabletype.com, it doesn't work because MT plugins are written in Perl while the dynamic system uses PHP.
So there you have it: back to square one. I guess it's true what they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Nevertheless, I implemented a few modifications to make browsing through the site a little easier. The bottom of the this index page lists the most recent entries and comments from both my blog and linklog. In addition, I managed to merge the two lists of comments from the Recent Comments page into one integrated list, rather that two separate blog and linklog comment lists.
I think this entry is long overdue.
The old gradient layout was starting to look really old, so I thought it was time to sit at my computer for hours to come up with a new one.
It has been just shy of two years since my last website revamp. I tried to keep the layout even more simple by removing the two-column page structure. I figure that this format is more flexible and is a more efficient use of page space.
For the first time ever on this blog, I have used a serif font for larger titles. Readers, meet Georgia. I often encounter articles discouraging the use of seriffed fonts for webpages, due to its lack of legibility on computer screens comparatively, but I find that now with the widespread use of sans-serif fonts, fonts like Georgia, brings your eye's attention to where it's needed-- for titles, headings and the like.
I have finally found the required plugins to show all the comments-- from both my main blog and linklog-- all on one page, but I am still in the works for my main archive page. I thought that I would hold off on this new layout announcement until everything is complete, but it has been way too long.
Just thirty minutes ago, I had a Hyperdot panic attack. I lost all of Hyperdot's data, including this blog, and my web neighbour, Emily's blog. My heart pumped profusely with nothing to do but just stare at the computer. My forehead was damp, and I sat there helpless.
Because Hyperdot's 'Awestats' web counter has not been working since November, I was told by my tech support provider to follow several simple steps, but because I was all cocky and thinking that I knew what I was doing, I just skimmed the directions.
Then I realized that I ended up terminating my account. Terminating your account means all files on your webspace will disappear. Forever. Because Hyperdot runs on Linux servers, there is no Recycle Bin to recover the files.
I didn't back up the files.
Thank goodness to the folks at getsomesupport.com. They provide ultra-fast responses if you submit a ticket during office hours. They were able to restore the site's files to the server's latest backup. Only a miniscule data (the most recent) was lost.
It's kind of weird that Hyperdot has really become part of my life. It seemed like I just lost my baby during my panic attack. I love Hyperdot. Hopefully, you website owners won't me like me and almost had to learn the hard way. Backup your files!
As some of you may be aware, there were some issues with the site with regards to 404 File Not Found and 403 Forbidden messages.
I attempted to upgrade to the latest Movable Type publishing platform (Version 3.31)-- since I'm currently using version 3.15.
For some reason, whenever I rebuild my pages, it always screws up the recursive CHMOD properties.
I have given up, and I have reverted back to the original version.
I think this is a sign of aging, first it's the inability to work with a functional upgrade, then the next thing you know, I will be one of those older technologically incompetent people that I have grown so impatient with.

I use Facebook. But sometimes I can't help but I wonder, is it good for me?
Seriously, do you think that there is a net benefit to using Facebook? What I mean is if we were to measure all the good stuff that it brings, does it sufficiently compensate for all the hours wasted when actual work should've been done?
I am writing this entry, not to provide any answers-- because I seriously don't know; maybe you can help me in figuring out the real added value of this very addictive contraption.
From my very on-the-surface analysis, I guess it does create a very active online social environment for users.
You can send e-vites and expect responses in an instant. You can easily create groups or communities depending on whatever your interests and views happen to be.
You can make a statement and voice your concerns hyper-effectively. For example, the UW U-Pass initiative has again resurfaced on campus, and through the power of Facebook groups, it was able to reach the support of 1,668 members in just a matter of a week-and-a-half.
Another great thing about Facebook is that because of its prevalent use, you can unite with friends from back in the day. I recently reconnected with some school friends from back when I was in Grade 1!
I think the major drawback is that it is such a time waster. Go to any computer lab, and I can bet someone is on Facebook.
I admit that I browse quite a bit to see what the heck people are up to. When a roommate changed her relationship status, for instance, I immediately called them to get the latest scoop. When someone posts new pictures, I am the first to view them. When you can't put a name to a face, you search them. When there's someone cute you find running in the halls, you search them, too.
It's quite sad when you start to recognize faces on campus or on the bus, just because you have seen his or her profile-- people of which you don't even know.
This is it from me, I will turn the mic over to you guys. Is Facebook good for society? Haha. For those who haven't been on Facebook, I encourage you to sign up and at least see what it's all about.

Although there's nothing really productive to write about these days, I still to write about something.
For those who don't know, I treated myself after eight months of work with laptop. I thought this would definitely ring in the new school term with a bang.
Wow, I'm such a geek.
So I bought myself a Dell because at prices like their's, there's seriously no reason not too. Surely, they're not the sexiest laptops, though they're not nasty looking either. The best thing is that it does what it needs to do.
So after a few upgrades to the battery and the wireless card, and being $1000 in the Visa hole, I am a proud owner of a Dell Inspiron 640m (Intel Core Duo T2050). Because Shima named her laptop (Shifty?), I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon.
Everyone, meet Pickles. Pickles, meet everyone.

Days after I purchased it, Dell released the Core 2 Duos. Bastards. But I guess you can never keep up with technology, so why bother.
At that same time, Tiff tells me about her awful experiences with Dell. I know, me and my timing. Apparently she was a victim of the loss of computer files, after her laptop crashed on her. She had to re-write a paper if I recall correctly.
Touch digital-wood that what happened with Tiff doesn't happen to me. Ah.
So far, I'm enjoying the laptop experience. To be honest, I can't imagine not working on a laptop now. It has definitely become an extension of me, and I almost feel paralyzed without it. After three months, I am impressed with Dell. It's working wonderfully thus far, and their tech support is top notch.
... but if anything does happen, I'm am sure you'll hear about it here.
I have already managed to scratch the laptop surface like mad after just a month of use. So I forked out another $26 for a skin. Here's it is. It looks a bit cheesy-- looked more cool on the website-- but again, I hope will prevent Pickles from further scratches.

It was gone for a few months, but those pesky buggers are back. Damn you comment spam.
It went crazy last sometime last year with a dozen gambling related sites from Blackjack and Texas Holdem.
Now it seems to be back with a vengeance with damn Viagra and Cialis and other erectile dysfunction aids, and I find myself deleting hundreds of comments weekly, damn it.
Obviously, the default anti-spam measures that come included in MT 3.2 are slowly losing its effectiveness, and it's time to resort to altnerative options. I found two new plugins which I'm sure will do the trick.
The RealCommentThrottle plugin imposes a limit on the number of comments a blog can accept per hour and per day. All subsequent comments are rejected until the period of time is over.
MT-Moderate is a simple plugin forces comments made to older posts to be moderated. I know there are definitely drawbacks to this option, since "real" visitors are now guilty until proven innocent-- which definately ruins the experience of blogging-- but the significant amount of comment-spam is leaving me no option.

After some long procrastination on working on the Linklog backend, I think it is finally open for business. I decided to keep the Blog and Linklog in separate feeds because (1) you can better choose which content you'd like to read, and (2) I just don't know how to combine the two feeds together anyways.
RSS users can subscribe to my linklog feed through the following links:
RSS 2.0, Atom 0.3.
As always, you can subscribe to my blog: RSS 2.0, Atom 0.3.
I'm currently using Bloglines to aggregate all of my blog content browsing, and I strongly recommend it.
If there are some bugs in the linklog feed, let me know and make me happy.
I'm hopping on the blog bandwagon again.
Inspired my Ramanan's great blog, I too wanted to start to expand my blog network to better connect with my digital world. (Did that actually make sense?)
Allow me to introduce my link log. This will not be news to those who subscribe to my RSS, since they've already discovered some weird test links that I've created earlier this week.
I still have to fiddle around with the backend coding, but the bare essentials have been implemented. Special kudos to Chris for referring me to the linklog code, and also to Matt of hitormiss.org for providing the instructions and actual scripts.
The overall themes of my linklog will obviously encompass what I feel are noteworthy, with special emphasis on planning and development issues; public transit; and Canadian politics.
There is a frenzy of spam from all you planners in my Hotmail these past days, so here I am succumbing to peer pressure.
Welcome to the 2005 edition of getting to know your friends. What you are supposed to do is copy (not forward) this entire e-mail and paste it onto a new e-mail that you'll send. I had the luxury this week, to fix up some small issues with the website. If you care to know, here's a briefing:
Dirfication and Dashification
All archives files are now in Smart URLs. Smart URLs aims to use real text to name blog entry files, replace possible spaces into underscores, and convert all text approrpriately to lower case. As I found out through my geek research this process in the web world is known as to dirify.
Words these days are getting pretty ridiculous.
I'm not sure what's the etymology of "dirify." I'm assuming it's either from the word "directory" or "dirty." Maybe someone out there knows.
I've encountered dirifying from my years of working with Movable Type, but I just never did it because I personally don't like underscore URLs. Well, I don't like underscore anything, and I prefer to use dashes to signify spaces.
I managed to find a MT Dirifyplus plugin, and now I'm good to go. I'd like to call it "dashify."
You heard it here first folks. Dashify.
No more layer gaps
I noticed quite a long time ago that my page has been loading with this irritating gap in Firefox and Safari browsers between the top banner and the body elements, as well as the body elements and the footer. Surprisingly enough, it was fine in Internet Explorer all this time. Anyways, it was pissing the hell out of me, and now it's finally fixed.
Wordpress Vs. Movable Type
I was feeling quite ambitious tonight, and I installed Wordpress into the webpage. But after a quite a bit of work on it, I found myself still attached to Movable Type. I'm not sure if it is because I'm just not enjoying having to familiarize new applications, but I find that the layout customizations are really annoyingly difficult.
I think Wordpress is better for pre-formatted layouts, and not for implementing layouts from scratch. If you're interested in how far I got, feel free to take a peek before I clear it.
At the same time, Wordpress is kicks MT ass when it comes to implementing Dynamic Templates. I still can't seem to understand the process for to get it working. Though I suppose Static Templates aren't necessarily that bad.
Banner links to Homepage
This is intuitive is it not? Well, not precisely, since I just got that link running.
Comment Archives links to Entries
Self explanatory. It's easier to reference to the actual entry where the comment was made.
Although you shouldn't notice anything seemingly different on the website, but for the past week, I undertook a fun project to make my site valid XHTML 1.1 and valid CSS with a little guidance from the World Wide Web Consortium and its XML parser.
I totally miss debugging. As frustrating as it is at times, I have always enjoyed the satisfaction of resolving programming problems. I totally remember those fun days of Turing and Visual Basic in Grade Eleven and OAC Computer Science. I also remember back in Grade Nine when I got so excited about making webpages and spend hours on end staring at the screen.
I guess nothing's changed.
Sometimes I wonder why my life would be like if I was in CS. I'd make a good errr Computer Scientist. Minus algebra. Minus calculus. Essentially, all math. Except maybe stats, but that's still pushing it.
Better stick with Planning.
It's finally up! And I don't mean my member. Yes, hope you enjoy my new layout. I decided that I've been staring at that ugly picture of me for too long. So here we are, a much more colourful, but simpler layout.
Less is more. Less is more. This is what my boss always says. Maybe he's having an impact on me through this layout. I've taken out some of the distracting stuff-- like the petty icons and smaller graphics. Though my intention was to make it simpler, it's weird, I still find myself going crazy and implementing more and more. And voila!
Less is more. Is it really more? I foresee an interesting bloggin opportunity. Too tired to blog right now, but I will write my thoughts on that. Yes, Matt will.
Oh yeah, if you haven't plugged into my shameless promotion via MSN, I've re-opened Hyperdot-Main with more functions, features, and an exciting new layout. Check it out.
I've finally managed to understand the concept on not using tables for web layouts. Let's just say it was quite the learning adventure. My stiff head (not my member) has not been receiving much information lately. It's not as spongy as it once was.
Hey hey everyone. I'm here enjoying my lovely time at home on Monday night, as my class is cancelled. Yippie! It would be even sweeter if classes are cancelled tomorrow. C'mon where's the snow!?! Though according to theweathernetwork.com, we're only expecting 5-10 cms. Which sucks, cuz it's just irritating having trudge in the darn snow.
MCHQ: Matt's genesis in web design:
I was casually checking out some web stuff, when I all of a sudden stumbled on I site I created back in 1998! Omg, it's sad that I created the website seven years ago. It was called MCHQ-- Matt's Celebrity Headquarters- which is a portal of the several celebrity sites that I've created. I know I know, you guys are all probably laughing at me, for being a geek at such an early age. What's sad is that since the merger of Geocities and Yahoo several years ago, they've closed all my sites (because of the long duration since my last login), except for my Sugar Ray site.
In addition to those celebrities, I also made a Dexter Freebish website-- you might recall them from their album, A Life of Saturdays, and particularly their song Leaving Town. Anyways, I teamed up with this dude, Blaine, from Texas, and DFonline was born.
I also had a Savage Garden website, where a company sponsored me a free domain name in exchange for banner ads, but they closed down without any notice in 2003 :( Thank God I still have a back up of the site sitting on my hard drive.
Oh my gawd, I also made a site with Emily, which also was under the "Geocities Curse" It featured with fobby Hong Kong celebrities (y'know, when HK music was acutally good) like ???, ???, ???, ???, there were a few others, but I don't remember.
OMG, do you guys remember Asianavenue? Haha! It's still in operation! My user name is big-balbosky, named after the wrestler that I liked in high school, Val Venis, ohhh the WWF WWE, those were the days.
It's funny now looking at the sites that I've made. You've really seen so much changes in web development in the past decade. We've for sure came a long way-- some to our benefit, while others, not so much. I remember all the e-retailers before the big dot-com bust-- where sites were not all owned by evil Amazon. I really enjoyed the concept of "Neighbourhoods" from Geocities, and Yahoo! then took them over and scrapped their entire idea. Now, my precious Rogers webspace is also a Yahoo! Geocities account, since they've collaborated late last year, it is now called Rogers Yahoo! Canada Geocities. Crazy crazy crazy.
It's actually getting ridiculous-- the merger names. Kinda like chapters.indigo.ca, although I support them 100%-- if only they were as competitive as Amazon, haha. On a side note, Indigo is now selling iPod products, and is offering rebates if you sign up with audible.com, an audio-book e-retailer. Smart move Indigo, but quit it with the online jewellery.
QUEST:
Has everyone checked out the upgraded QUEST system? It's pretty neat, and resembles the other HR, and Jobmine interfaces. But apparently, it is giving grief to those who recently dropped courses before the Drop 1 date.
ADDENDUM:
Omg, I'm looking at this entry, and wow, it really shows how much time I had on my hands making all those websites. Good old high school! Remember when we'd talk about how "stressed" we were with ISPs (haha, it's so fun to say that again)-- or Independent Study Project. Haha! Haha, I recall how my "stress" involves slacking and shopping at Markville, Pacific Mall, and having "afternoon tea" after classes.
Aiya.
Google is definitely a superb, state-of-the-art web seach engine. This impressive piece of work has been a considerable source of referals to Mattism. Among many of these visitors are some interesting commenters. Remember:
Missy Elliott's Fondue Adventures?
Hannah Sung's Muchmusic Romp Secrets?
My apparent "judgement on people by there [sic] nationality?"
Bow Wow being 110% buff?
So those are the old ones. Here comes some fresh comments:
Reading makes me to become less of a piece of shit?
Dear Brad,
Why so bitter? Don't get your panties all in a knot and and face it: not everybody a lot of people don't enjoy reading, especially reading textbooks.
I assume you're an avid reader since you have such a strong advocacy for reading, so why do you have such crass and unintelligent writing?
Unlike me, I'm sure you're a smart guy and it's great you enjoy reading. But I'm a firm believer that you are how you write. People often judge others on how you express a particular message, especially if the medium involves writing. So if you're smart, write smart. :)
Thanks for visiting.
Kind Regards,
Matt
And finally, my personal favourite: Waterloo students are supposed to be smart.
Dear Waterloo students are supposed to be smart,
Did you steal my bike? Because if you did, God knows and he will stick a big fat dildo up your fat ass. Oh yes, I would like it back please and thank you.
I have a question: Since when are Waterloo students supposed to be smart? I mean, last time I checked, I go there-- so how "smart" can they be?
I don't understand how you managed to get 96 in BUS111, not because I think you're academically challenged, but because if I'm not mistaken, WLU is on a alpha-grading system, and getting 96 is just impossible. But you're totally right, getting a "better" lock would be best. If you have a chance, please let me know what is a "better" lock. Through my experiences, locks only keeps honest people honest. So what is it? I'd love to know what a "better" lock is because I'm totally clueless.
But you're right, I'm dumb and I shouldn't go to Waterloo nor should I own a bike.
Best of luck at Research in Motion, hope you're having fun with your RIM-Job and playing with Blackberries. I'm so jealous. (Tee hee, I couldn't help myself.) I apologize for IP-tracking you, I was just curious what information I can dig.
Yours Sincerely,
Matt

welcome back everyone! after a short hiatus, i've managed to put together my new layout and upgraded my publishing platform.
earlier this week, i was in the mood for change. this feeling doesn't come too often. so i decided to wipe out my earlier version of MT 2.1 and upgrade it to the new MT 3.121. boy was i in for some geeky fun. after uploading all the files for MT 3.121, i was impressed with the refreshing chic interface. however, the impressed feeling halted there. MT has completely neglected to debug this new version. at first, i thought it was due to my negligence, as i often 'scan' instructions instead of carefully following it. however, after 4 installation trials, i think i can come to the conclusion is the platform is a piece software crap what reeks like my feet after a long day of leather-shoe-wearing work. ugh.
i ended up installing a previous MT 2.661. i was so pissed that i was going to switch platforms, but i really don't want to learn another platform since i haven't used any other platform since my switch from greymatter.
so yes, lots of exciting stuff in the new mattism:
> repaired the long-malfunctioned "remember me" function in the comments section
> new rss feed for my blog
> expect a photoblog as soon as i collect a considerable amount of digital pictures to implement one
hope you're enjoying the new layout. i'm currently obsessed with with vector imaging with illustrator. it's a lot of fun.
speaking of obsessed. that new destiny's child song is super-addictive. i mistook the song as a beyonce song, but eric mentioned it to me yesterday that it was actually a band song. quite interesting because it seems like beyonce's voice dominated the entire song.
speaking of songs, there's been a lot of great songs released in the past month. maybe this is to make up for the lack of good songs this summer. i can honestly say that this there was 'no song of the summer' this summer. although this may be because i was stupidly in school this summer season. anyway, comment if you think i stand corrected. here's what i've been checking out ('non-radio' people, read no further)
> Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath
> Duran Duran - Sunrise
> Avril Lavigne - Nobody's Home
> U2 - Vertigo
> Lindsay Lohan - Rumours

Finally a new layout, the iPod is getting old. The layout that is, not the gadget itself. Yes, eat a beaver and save trees. Being a planner, its time for a green promotion layout. Then, I was looking at David & Goliath again and saw the slogan and just fell in love with it. :D
Canada Day long weekend was pretty fantabulous. Hairspray was amazing, a must see for all. It's witty, funny, and just deep down a good time. It's such a happy play, you just can't help but watch the show with a wide, white toothy smile. :D
Finally managed to go the the Bomber on Wednesday night, it was indeed a very good time. Man, it was like the whole school was there. Waiting for the porto-potty was indeed the best experience of all. Wow, the porto-potty smells sooo good! mmmm! I'm going to use porto-potties more often.
Saw Spiderman, not as good as its predecessor, but whatever, it's acceptable. There's a Planning joke in there-- even though they were making fun of us, I can't help but laugh! MU HA HA!
Stupid Eric got the stupid YEAH song from USHER in my head. DAMN YOU ERIC! Wait, maybe I kinda contributed to my own insanity. YEAH YEAH YEAH.. YEAH!
hey everyone, hope you're enjoying the new layout. yes, the dirty old curious george and his dirty sidekick, "man in the yellow hat". lol. I had to make a dirty layout, too bad the images are of bad quality. I have three graphics made, they will be randomized once I find the HTML code.
This week had been busy busy. At work, I go from being laidback and having nothing to do, to having stockpiles of stuff to do. It's funny how wishes turn out-- be careful what you wish for, ladies and gents! Though I'm glad I'm busy, I enjoy being depended on and now I can fully show myself and my potential.
Reading week is fast approach, but I, however, will be in Waterloo. Boo. I will be particulary busy with the supplementary AutoCAD class I'm taking. I go to school during the day and work in the evening. I will be on campus from 9 - 9, yikes. Anyways, it's alright I guess, because I figured CAD would be good for me. It was originally not supposed to be a go, but thanks to Jeff and his Archi posse, we have just enough to make a class! YAY! Go (particular) architects!
The HRM exam was harder than I thought, but I think I did alright. We'll see what happens. Valentines Day is coming up. I think it's a shitty, crapola day in which magically everything you see becomes red and pink. For those guys out there, it's just another one of those days in the calendar where they need to buy something nice for a stupid day. Stupid stupid day. STUPID. Of course, I'm just saying that because of my situation. But still! It's a stupid dumb-retarded day. Time for write some bitter poetry, go on Lavalife, and order Chinese take out dinners for one in stereotypical Chinese food cartons. (Maybe I'll have Spring Rolls).
It's getting late, no features this entry.
What do you guyz think about Valentines?
This has been a good week! I've been awfully busy reviewing for my Human Resources Exam (yes, reviewing, not reading for the first time :D) and I've actually been busier at work too! This is good stuff. Maybe my co-workers are used to me being around, so it "clicks" to them to ask me for help.
There is nothing to take in the Spring Term. Waterloo is retarded, so is the School of Planning for giving us four electives this term. They make an academic term with nothing to to take within Planning. GIS is only only required class next term. So I gotta find myself 4 electives :S. This is not an easy task-- knowing how undecisive I am and all the classes seem to be on Tuesday-Thursday, which makes scheduling mindboggling. We'll see what happens.
I've acutally been busy this week! As you can see through my nonblogness. This is great, keep the busy-ness coming! YAY. Anyways, the School of Planning is looking for a new Transportation Planner prof (and I get to be part of the hiring process! (I feel so special! Tho extent of my influence is understandably questionable) Nevertheless, its cool-- I get to be the interviewer instead of the interviewee! WEE! I could tell how nervous one of them was-- all these "important people" like the dean and these quiet profs asking very intimidating questions. It was like my job interviews (but a lot worse, as there's a multitude of scary people, I felt for him. So I put up my hand and discussed how I agree with his points. :S To make the situation more bareable and comfortable. I didn't really do the trick, but I tried.
I've also been scheduling for future Planning course offerings. Planners: If you intend to do specializations, let me know what classes you want, and maybe I can help you guys out to get it all done. Coop students, tho, apparently do not get priority to fulfill specialization requirements. So let me know.
Oh my gawd, something horrible happened to me this morning. Well, first of all, I get a ride from my roommate Jeff to work every morning as he has 8:30 classes everyone (I know, crazy). Anyways, he parks at Lot R, right next to FedHall. For those who know how I am in the morning, not very conscious and moody. So what happened was that because I was tired, I was not very quick to react. I walk towards Burt Matthews Hall Parking Lot, and I entered through the Parking Entrance gates-- you know the infamous bars that go up and down. Me being retarded, didn't realize that the bar was about to go down. The bar goes down just as I walked toward it. The bar hits me right at my stomach and it bounces me back as I fall to the hard new ice that we received. Then Jeff laughs his head off. Haha, well I guess it was kinda funny. My housemates are soo gonna hear about this one :S
Hey everyone, I have survived the first day of work-- and it was a long long long one. Seeing a minute pass after another, it is crazy. Well, my big boss wasn't in today-- he was ill, apparently. So then his assistants had to keep me busy all day. I kinda felt bad for making them more busy by keeping me busy. Nevertheless, they weren't too efficient in keeping my busy anyways because I just sat there in my office, staring at a screen. argh. I really hope this is not how it is, I'd rather be busy and have time go by faster.
So yes, I have a office in ES1 Room 319, with a beautiful window view-- well not really. The room was freaking cold, even when I put up the heat. It is a possibility that I will not be getting this office for long. I hope that is not true.
I'm taking one class this term: Human Resources Management 200. I managed to get in, so YAY! Anything to keep me busy and my mind of stupid things. I'm back at Imprint this term, and I have been promoted to Web Editor. Woo! I'm working on a new layout for the website: you can
take a sneak peek here and here.
Obviously, I'm back in Waterloo-- and seriously it sucks. I feel really down when I'm here. I hate being alone. I hate having no one to talk to. I hate having to talk to myself. What makes it worse is I don't have really anyone to work with at work. It's like independent work. No one bugs me. No one to talk to. Another thing, I hate winter. The snow, the dark, the coldness seriously depresses me. Sometimes, I wanna just scream and go back to Markham and give my parents a big big hug. I feel very insecrue when they're not around, I feel kinda scared sometimes. The fact that they're not readily available to spy on me and stuff kinda frightens me. Perhaps I've been pampered and now I'm having a hard time being on my own-- but I have been away from home for almost a year and a half (sorta), but I can never seem to get used to it.
I have this yucky feeling my lower chest. It's not a physical thing-- it kinda resembles the feeling of butterflies, but it isn't. I wouldn't say I'm nervous. I think it's been overthinking again. Thinking about how much I hate being in Waterloo-- I go through this everytime I'm back, and I hope it could just go away.
hey everyone! i thought it was time for a new layout.. well, that and because i need an excuse not to do any work!.. so here you are! a david & goliath layout (you can find their stuff here) I personally love their "BOYS ARE SMELLY" Series... it's hilarious! well, i hope you all enjoy!
So yes.. it's a Liberal victory ladies and gentlemen. and yes, even Tony Wong won-- the one I despise (Why? Click here). Nevertheless, he is indeed a high profile figure in the Town of Markham, and I congratulate him. I saw him at Pacific Mall today, and I went to go shake his hand. Perhaps he will lead the way for more Chinese-Canadian politicians (like me, lol)
What have I been up to? Thursday, it was ES/AHS Night at the Bomber. The so-called: "2 smallest faculties, having the biggest party"... though it was definitely somewhat untrue, I managed to have a great time. I went with my roommates Jaime, Tiff, and Christine (tho they weren't in ES or AHS).
Friday, saw Lost in Translation. As Mark said, definitely a wacky movie... i personally don't think there is some hidden meaning.. it's just a weird movie.
alright. i'm keeping it short tonight. have a great week.
I hope you all are enjoy my new layout. I think it's really refreshing, and summery, just like the beautiful weather we have been having. WOO! I LOOOOVE Angelina Jolie, she's so pretty.
Anyways, with this new layout, I've also changed my website name (Yes, I'm copying Eugene! =p) This site is always going to be Mattism-- because well, Mattism is whatever makes me myself (if that makes any sense). I've changed the name to "Congestion" because not only does it have to do with my field in Urban Planning, it also refers to our mind, conscience, and reality-- we are often in a mindblock.
There are many things in life that makes us stuck-- and I don't mean constipation. Life is like a day on the road, we have days in driving when it is great, then we have the days of obstacles like road closures, traffic accidents that deter from our journey as we try to find the quickest detour (which isn't easy)-- now I think i'm rambling.
Anyways, not much has been happening. Saw 2 Fast 2 Furious at the Coliseum. Surprisingly good, that Devon Aoki is surprisingly hot! All was good except Paul Walker, he needs new shoes and needs a new voice, "BRO".
Again, I hope you like the new layout. I hibernated in the A/C tonight doing it! ;) There are some stuff still in the works. As what Eugene apparently thinks Paul Walker says "CHECK IT OUT, BRO!"
I'm really tired of that ugly Blue's Clues layout. So navy will do for now.
Yes, saturday was definitely the big big day. HARRY POTTER! The day that Chapters has been so anxiously awaiting; and it as finally arrived! Woo! After these crazy weeks of intense marketing and publicity, I must say it's been a lot of fun. The store decided to make the store more exciting by naming each Chapters employee a Harry Potter character name. It is a lot of fun. :) I myself is Percy Weasley, boyfriend of Penelope Clearwater and Brother of Ron Weasley. :) YAY!
So yes, we had 1800 copies come into the store today-- now that is massive, considering it is a $44 hardcover book (at 20% off). And yes, we had a Harry Midnight Madness that night, and after I went to Demetres near Times Square with a few Planner friends, I stopped by the store to check it out, and yes, it was packed as hell! Apparently, people waiting at 8 pm for the 12:01 release. The crazy countdown to the final minute!
HINT HINT: Shoppers is selling it at 40% off (Chapters: 20% off)
Wednesday was UW Course Selection day, my online appointment as at 9am. There was not need for me to select anything, because there's nothing to select-- i have FIVE PLANNING CLASSES. omg, i have to face planners the whole term (which i guess is good and bad). I have 16 hours a week and one 8.30 class. the rest are pretty late, which i'm happy about.
Enough about Harry, since I think we've all heard enough. It's been quite a swell few days. Went to the bar with Eugene, Byron and Ben. Fun Funness. Had a decent time, but I was quite tired myself. -- Good times.
On Saturday, after a lot of crazy commotion becuase I didn't book off, I had to beg and beg Mnager Laura if I could leave early for the Concert for Toronto. I made some other lame excuse, and she let me get off even though it was the first day of the Harry Potter release, she's the best.
So yes, the concert was overall pretty good. We had good seats after stealing other peoples'. The best and impressive performance has got to be Barenaked Ladies, they really rocked the place, they got the audience very rowdy, which was great. Sarah McLachlan should have stopped stealing the friggin show! BNL should have had more stage time and Sarah was so weird, she was like trying to be all seductive! OMG. Big Nono. The most disappointing performance was Avril Lavigne, she sucked. She was like so damn boring, can't sing (especially "I'm With You"). Me, Bowie and Gillian tried to get closer look, but stupid security pulled my back while them 2 got away! What the hell! Again, just my luck. Oh yeah, OLP was pretty good, too, Jann Arden not bad either. Off to Chinatown, after the concert for some food-- since we have not eaten all day as they didn't allow us to re-enter upon exit. Chinatown food is not bad-- Markham food is better.
Sunday was Chapters Staff Meeting day, exciting exciting stuff. After the meeting, me and Leo hit up Bunny Place, and got some Bubtea. yummm.
I've felt much happier in the last few days, perhaps because I've kept myself fairly busy and gives me less time to think. I remember I've told others in the past is that whenever you feel down, or that someone else seems better than you are, just reflect and see what you're grateful for what you're good at and what you like about urself. Somehow along the line, I have forgotten what i've preached. Well, i came back to my senses a few days ago. And right now, I'm grateful of good friends, generally pretty good family relations, and just where I stand in life to this day. Thank you everyone!!! You all made my day. (Well, except YOU!) j/k.
hey hey... yes.. back in T-Dot for exactly a week now.. i've finally fully adapted with the home atmosphere.. the silence.. the consistent MSN connection. (haha).. being a couch potato... the nagging parents.. but most importantly... CHINESE FOOD.. OH BABY... oh i missed it so!... however... my stomach is not used to eating at 8 o'clock for dinner.. since i have dinner at 5 sharp everyday, back in UW....
I got a very funny comment a few days ago regarding a previous blog entry.. the entry is right here: http://mattism.hyperdot.net/history/000012.shtml Well. this comment is about Hannah Sung.. and at the time.. i mentioned that "theres something about that girl" (like St. Joan of Arc, Eric. haha) and an annonymous person responded:
Dear Matt:Sorry to let you down like this, but as someone who knows Hannah Sung, here's the scoop.
I have never met anyone so willing to sleep her way to the top than her.
Also, she's twofaced (comes with the sleeping your way to the top...such as it is...job description)
and...unfortunately, dumber than a rat on acid.Sorry...but it's an open secret.
Girl's a bitch-ass ho who happens to have landed in the right place at the right time.
hmmm... what can i say about this response? hhmmm.. first of all.. i'd like to just see who this is? Perhaps, she's right-- who knows-- but:
#1: her annonymity makes her statement invalid. If you mean it.. don't be ashamed of what ur saying!!
#2: and about her being "willing to sleep her way to the top"... at least she could!.... (and if you can give me her number.. i'll get to the bottom of this! *wink* *wink*)
#3: are we sensing some kinda of jealousy?!? i wish i, too, was "in the right place at the right time"... don't we all want that?!?.. geez...
hheheh.. but nevertheless, it's funny that when you "google" hannah sung. i actually get a hit!!!.. so wicked eh?.. (not really, but anyways)... but the words expressed sounds interesting-- i wanna know more.. so if you're reading this.. feel free to comment me again.. :)
so i went back to Chapters today.. to beg for my job back... there's no way they won't hire good-worker-me! c'mon!.. but after some small-talk.. my General Manager, Matt took me in.. but in terms of hours.. it doesn't look too good.. probably 20 hours a week.. which sucks.... i really want to work at AE.. so perhaps i'll get something going there as well..
i've really been catching up on my music.. since i missed four months of it in waterloo... first of all.. i'm really likin:
>>Madonna's American Life... excellent....
>>Matchbox 20's Unwell.. *shrugs*...i'm a little ashamed.. but i like it... ;)
>>Eminem's Sing for the Moment.. not bad.. not bad at all..
>>Sixpence: Don't Dream It's Over.. hahha.. it's a pretty good song.. it reminds me of chris because he had this song on repeat for like half a day!. HAHHA..
>>Matt Good: "... Catastrophe's" that's pretty good.. i'm liking him as a solo guy better than when he's with his band
>>Kelly Clarkson: Miss Independent... all thanks to byron.. ;) sexy song..
>>Swollen Members/ Nelly Furtado!.. i'm like whoa!.. damn good.
and for some suckiness
>>Linkin Park's Somewhere I Belong sucked... despite the whole hype with the new Linkin Park album..i'm somewhat disappointed..
>>What's with Lionel Richie's collaboration with Enrique Iglesias?!?.. holy.. Lionel can do sooo much better...
>>and if i hear another Jennifer Lopez song again, i'm going to kill myself.
i've blabbed enough.. good night all.
FINALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY!.. after an extremely hard time converting blog scripts... i'm finally finally done!!!!.. omg.. i hate movable type.. but i guess i would have to live with it... the site looks basically the same.. except for the COMMENTS ([insert number here]) part.. cuz movable type does not recogize singular from plural... oh well.. oh. and also, movable type doesn't recognize Greymatter's paragraphing!.. that sucks.. oh well..
it's finally friday...! YES YES YES!. woo hoo!. reading week in one week! yes! okay.. time for a shower and maybe lunch! =) ta ta!
i donno.. today just felt really weird.... i had a feeling today would be crappy day.. and it turned out to be true... maybe i AM having my period.. sigh... from incompetent Caferia ladies to being late for the fed bus, to my glasses fucking up on me, to stupid reading.... and the endless thinking.... sigh... think i should have stayed in Toronto... well... on a different note: here's the rest of the grad pics i promised: Click here
Chris' photolog is up and there's no pics of me, i'm the WC outcast with the asians.. =( sniff Click here
Remember Beverley from Bennies and McGivney?, she has a blog too Click hereoh yeah.... like my old layouts? wanna skin it to 'em? do it here... (but i'm working on the blog and guestbook page is still tho... )

Yeah so... me and leo ng were talking... I was thinking we should add a message board on the site.... so what else should we put on it?!?.. something that we all can interact with especially we all won't we seeing a lot of each other...

yeah so, ideas ideas ideas!!!!
hehehe.... welcome to my version 2A layout!.. i know it's sooo original and creative.. hehe... anyways.. just wanted to work on the webpage, but i had no inspiration to start from scratch. so tell me what you think of the layout! yup yup!.. well... there's 3 more days of school.... study hard ladies and gentlemen!!!...
well.. after school, me and leo went to go shop for joanna's gift at fairview, and of course, being us... we were so damn stuck on what to give her... we probably bugged alan a billion times!.. hahha.... but after a long long search, we found something really really cool.... it's so funny, mr. krucko's teaching became very very useful!.. we used his brainstorming techniques! hahahhaa... mr. krucko is really good in that he teaches really practical and useful stuff.... =) heheh... i'm not telling what we gave her... so you people just have to go and see.. and you better go!!!!!!.....
hello all... it's currently thursday morning here.. and i have yet to begin my work.. sigh... anyways... i've had quite a pleasant day..... cuz i didn't go to English.. you won't even believe how much better your days goes by without attending english... hehe.. but nevertheless, i will have to brace myself for another day of english tomorrow... oh yeah, i have yet to mention the wicked layout of eric's site! mmm hmmm! do as infinity girl... mmmm mmmm.. hehe... well the layout is indeed very snazzy and different.. (a 'good' different).. hehe.. and also.. leo's site!.... very fishy... and the fish are definitely not very "sang" (<--- chinglish).. hehehe.. i donno where that came from... haha.. cool site leo ng.. creative concept.. =)..
so i would like to tell you all that we are exactly ONE WEEK away from Star Wars II!!!! ::gets excited:: ... and on a similar note.. we are exaclty SIX WEEKS until school's over!!!!... ohh man... can't wait... =)
thanks a lot everyone for liking the new layout!.. and detesting on the old one.. (cuz i hated it too!)... YEAH!...heheh..
HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN will be on the Tonight Show on Friday!... VR / NBC 11:35
Hey!.. the star wars layout is up.. hopefully you guyz will like it...!! hehe.... and if you don't, i'm gonna haunt you down and kill you... =) mmmm hmmm!... okay... today's been a quite a "take-it-easy" kinda day..... i was out mostly with my dad..... okay.. that's all... have a great evening, ladies and gents..

And it ONLY took us two months to agree on a name! heheh. well here it is! finally Eric will no longer be bugging me to tell him about the layout's theme! Anyways.. i'll try to blog often.. well.. tomorrow is repord card day.... ahh yesss... good old repord card day... although i'm already aware of my dissapointing grades.. repord card day makes it worse cuz now i realize that the crappy marks are official...aiya... anyways... that's all for tonight!"
