Today was a fun day at work as we unveiled TTC’s plan to purchse a new fleet of light rail vehicles to replace our current streetcars.
The public consultation plan is named “Transfer to the Future— Toronto is Transit City.” I like the pun on the transfer thing, and I’m really impressed with the good start to the public consultation process. It’s getting people excited about the future of light rail transit, and the website is surprisingly vibrant, exciting, youthful and psychadelic— especially the fabulous video (click on ‘Video’ at the bottom of the flash page). I have been hearing the addictive tune of the video throughout the office. Haha.
Browse through the website, and let TTC know what you like or don’t like from the world’s stock of LRVs.

Holy crap I was turned off the moment I looked at that site. 2021? I know Canada is slow to do anything and this really just turns me off. I'll come back to take a look at it in 2015....
I thought that was pretty funny too, because you know it'll be at least 5 years late anyway.
Accrording to thestar.com (http://www.thestar.com/News/article/225710), two cars are expected to arrive in 2010 for testing and the next 48 are due by 2012, with another 26 delivered each year until 2018.
While mentioning 2021 does sound awful, I think they mean that the fleet will be fully replaced by that time. With the new Transit City LRT initiatives, the old streetcars might continue to be active.
Then they should've mentioned 2010 or 2012, not 2021.
Yeah I was a bit confused with the 2021... you know how old I'd be by then? I'll let you do the math! :o
But I do like the website a lot and I already let the city know what I thought about the Streetcars!
I'm such a model citizen, don't you think? :P or maybe I just think Adam G. is da Man!
hey this really looks interesting. but 2021?! nice layout too matt!
Me too I will be back in 2020 to see how much they (TTC) have done. Take a look at Avanto in Huston, Sirio in Athens, Citadis in Dublin or Eurotram in Strassbourg and see when they introduced theirs LRV's and then compare how far behind Toronto is. Actually Toronto looks like late ‘80’s beginning of ‘90’s already mentioned City’s.
