Update:
Happy Chinese New Year to all! I hope everyone had a great few days, b/c I certainly did. Chinese New Year is indeed fun :D I had part two of the festivities this weekend. Had more food— mmmm, hot pot— and those imfamous Vegetarian meals— which I don’t really like, but don’t mind eating.
Oh, the lovely ride home to Waterloo, OMG, let me just say the “Sunday Couple” lurks again! Oh my gosh, it’s just my luck boys and girls! What the heck. Enough about them, they are not worthy of my mentioning!
The School of Planning has gone Yoga-lates crazy! All the administrative staff, articularly the ladies, have been all about fitness. Everything from eating healthy (e.g. eating tofu nuggets), to doing Yoga stretches in the office, to doing running during the lunch hour— yes in subzero, blizzard conditions. And today, the lastest addition to the office— FITNESS BALLS! You know those huge balls like those orange balls that are really bouncy that you played in elementary school? Yes, that without the lovely handle. Well, the fitness balls have substituted office chairs— they literally sit on those all day long. I think maybe I should get one too (you know, with peer elderly pressure and all :D) and maybe get nice and toned. lol.
Here we go,
Has anyone caught E.C.? No, I don’t mean Environment Canada, and no I don’t mean a particular former-FMM student. I mean Electric Circus. Well, if you want to catch it, your wishes will not be granted— Electric Circus, the once-cool dance-electronica show has been cancelled. Yes, the show is cancelled— I’m sure this is news to everyone. But in fact, the show has been cancelled since early-December! The fact that no one is aware of that the show has been axed really demonstrates the great viewership of this show. The question is: What happened?
First of all, I used to like watching Electric Circus; this is back when I was like in Grade 8. At the time, having not experienced the club atmosphere, E.C. was a very facinating place. Seeing somewhat hot people in hot clothes, dancing around to cool music seemed so cool! It was like “Man, I can’t wait to be 19 and dance like these people!” (Yes, I’m a loser) I’m now almost 21 and I still don’t dance like them (thankfully). But at the time, for my ego’s sake, I didn’t make my enjoyment to watch people dancing in this “club” public— because, well obviously, it’s a stupid show.
I remember one time downtown, we actually were there on a Friday night and we coincidentally caught them filming and I’m like, oh my, look at this puny place! What a big disappointment! It funny how much cameras can work wonders in that place. Install some wall mirrors, film closely at the mediocre dancers, and VOILA! The E.C. club looks packed and happening! Props to the camera crew! But don’t get me wrong, E.C. was still cool to me at the time.
Remember Juliette Powell? She was the first VJ I’ve seen on EC and she was good at it too! She’s also really pretty— she reminds me of that girl on Friends, Aisha Tyler. (She was also a Miss Canada) Anyways, she was a great host— then they had that Trinidadian girl— I forget her name— [ I remembered later: Nadine Ramkisson] she was great, she was all about dance music and so damn energetic— exactly what you need, she had the passion for dance music and she loved it.
Then the show hits rock bottom. Death knocks on EC’s door. Yes, the stray bullet to the heart of all dance-TV programming. Yes, but not just one stray bullet, but two, named: Rainbow and Amanda— the pronounced first-degree murderers of the show. It seems like they just don’t wanna be there— like they’ve caught that stigma for the show too, and it really shows. I’ve always not enjoyed Rainbow, what the heck does he really do? Kill E.C., and play video games on MuchOnDemand? Anyways, crappy DJs: not worthy of my time. sigh.
But yes, if you were “fortunate” enough to catch the Amanda and Rainbow’s EC, they’ve (and their producers) completely switched from cool dance and electronica music to hip hop. (look at the last EC Chart to get my drift) I’m not against hip hop— I love hip hop! I’m sure everyone is aware of my undying love for my ever-so-cool Missy Elliott. But if I wanted hip hop, I’d watch MuchVibe or something— or just catch the MM Countdown, since it has become so mainstream. But you don’t get a chance to hear good dance/electronic music anymore— there’s no where to showcase that kind of work— and that’s pretty sad. MuchMusic: the headquarters of video music, the mecca of diversity, but is it? There are times when we must put aside our Good Charlotte, Britney Spears, or 50 Cent, and play something different.
The bottom line: MuchMusic asked for it.
PS: I need your feedback
I need your opinion, do you like this new blog format? Blogging fewer but longer, or blogging often but shorter? Should I have more features? Let me know :D
How about more often and longer? lol
Grrr.. who are you "ME" ?... you have stollen my exact words yet again!!! lol, this sounds like hate mail..

i think u should blog more often matt!
BLOG MORE OFTEN

bad thomas! BAD thomas!
me too, febs...i have yet to go clubbing!! hahha maybe we will heh on one of our birthdays or something??
and matt, everybody pretty much states it: blog more often, blog long or short, doesn't really matter...just blog!
i'd say...add some visual elements to ur blog! hahahhahha
I like lots of short posts. I think because my attention span is short. Also, Monica Deol was the first host of electric circus, and the best. Damn you guys are young! Hah.
ew monica deol was gross....
OMG Monica Deol was the best... she was the slickest and most professional, but you knew that chick could cut cloose and bust somethin'... too bad she moved to Much Vancouver or whatever. The rest were wannabes, except for Powell.
Me: Probably not, probably give or take a bit
Sh!ma: ME, is this person Is that what it's called? "Stability Ball"?
Jenn & Febz: Then we need to go clubbing then! Let's go let's go! And yes, I will try to blog more often
Tom: Let's say, yes it's true that it should be short when it needs to be, and long when it needs to be, but i prefer them long :D
Ems: I'll try with the visual elements thing. Some naked pics of me.
Namanar: Yeah, short posts have their advantage cuz it only takes a second to read and because a certain someone, ahem, also writes lots of short posts. Yeah, I remember recalling a Monica, but that was before my time, when I was still a major FOB-- I still am :D
Ghost: Too bad there isn't like Vintage EC to watch or something.
you stole the exact words out of my mouth!!! About "EC"!!! Thank you!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :)
If you did catch the petition I started to keep Nadine on the air, I did start it :)
